Sobriety Coaching: How It Can Help You Achieve Long-Term Recovery
If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction or substance abuse, you know how difficult it can be to achieve and maintain sobriety. While traditional addiction treatment programs can be helpful, they may not provide the ongoing support and guidance needed to stay sober over the long term. That's where sobriety coaching comes in, with one of our Listen Up Therapy Mentors.
Sobriety coaching is a form of support that helps individuals achieve and maintain their sobriety. Our mentors go beyond regular coaching with a trauma informed psychotherapeutic approach developed by the world renowned Dr Gabor Mate who is an addiction specialist. This approach helps to look at the root cause of addiction. Our mentors then also incorporate tools such as meditation and mindfulness, subconscious reprogramming, and developing new coping mechanisms so that when you face troubles in life you feel you have a solid tool kit to turn to instead of substance.
The Benefits of Sobriety Coaching
There are many benefits to working with a sobriety coach namely increased accountability, support and encouragement, development of new coping skills, improved self-awareness and self-esteem, and setting and achieving goals. Our team can provide personalized support that addresses the unique challenges of each individual's recovery journey. The fact coaches can offer tools, accountability and support is what differentiates it from traditional talk therapy.
What to Expect from a Sobriety Coach
Our mentors have a wide set of skills and qualifications as well as life experience. Calls are friendly yet supportive. The mentor cannot do the work for you, but be there as a guide offering support, tools and a space for deep inner reflection and processing. Our mentors work on both internal support - ie mindset, the addictive mind, counter-conditioning, the stress response, reframing, as well as external support ie. healthy lifestyle, creating a positive environment, considering 12 step support meetings.
Who Can Benefit from Sobriety Coaching?
Addiction is sneaky. We don’t need to be drinking or using substances everyday to have a problem. Many people are ‘functioning addicts’ who may “use” every few days, and think that they have it all together, that no one is noticing. Generally though cracks start appearing in life, work productivity suffers, we miss promotions. Relationships suffer and through hiding the amount of using that is really happening, mistrust and arguing can increase. For some clients, they spend days or a week clean, and then binge and find they lose control or don’t like how they act when under the influence and simply want some healthy coping mechanisms to replace their alcohol or substance use.
If you feel alcohol, drugs or addiction to shopping, food or anything else are affecting other areas of your life, then this kind of sobriety coaching support can really help.
Finding the Right Sobriety Coach for You
When looking for a sobriety coach, it's important to find someone who is qualified and experienced. Look for someone who is trained in addiction recovery and has a track record of helping individuals achieve and maintain their sobriety. Additionally, it's important to find a coach who is a good fit for your unique needs and personality. Our personal growth mentor Belinda is trained in Compassionate Inquiry, a trauma informed psychotherapeutic approach, she has over a decade of experience in Meditation and Mindfulness practices and has life experience of personally supporting people around her in their recovery, as well as helping countless clients through Listen Up Therapy.
