What is Therapy?

Counselling is the process of assisting and guiding clients, especially by a trained person on a professional basis, to resolve especially personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties.

Psychotherapeutic counselling is talking therapy. It is used to treat emotional problems and mental health issues. What distinguishes psychotherapeutic counselling from traditional counselling is the emphasis it places on the in-depth therapeutic relationship jointly created by the therapist and the client. This relationship is a central factor.

Why might I want therapy?

People seek therapy for various reasons, including grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and relationship issues. Some simply need a confidential space to talk. No issue is too small or too big for therapy—whatever you're facing, support is available.

Are my sessions confidential?

Yes, all therapy sessions are confidential. Information is only disclosed in exceptional circumstances where there is a risk to your safety or the safety of others. For more information please contact your counsellor, and consider our privacy policy.

Are online sessions secure?

Yes. We use Zoom, which is fully encrypted and HIPAA-compliant, ensuring secure and private sessions. Sessions are never recorded, and therapists use secure networks to maintain confidentiality.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy is 48-hours. If you arrive or call more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, without any prior contact or notice, this is considered as a non-refundable cancellation. No show appointments are also chargeable. We realise that life can take over and emergencies can happen. If you do need to cancel an appointment at short notice we will take this into account when rescheduling your next appointment.

How many sessions do I need?

We offer short-term (6-12 sessions) and long-term (12+ sessions) therapy. The number of sessions is agreed upon in advance with your counsellor, and you can continue beyond your initial agreement if needed.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Online therapy sessions must be paid for in advance using one of our secure online payment methods. To ensure the availability of your therapist, it is advised you book the dates you require in advance and pay securely prior to sessions commencing.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions with our psychotherapeutic counsellors vary, starting from 80 pounds. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are paid for in advance via our online booking system.

The Listen In online meditation course costs £120

Can I change therapists?

Yes. If you feel that your first session wasn’t the right fit, you can switch to another therapist. However, we discourage frequently changing therapists, as consistency is crucial for therapeutic progress.

Can I contact my therapist in-between sessions?

For rescheduling sessions please use our online booking system or contact info@listenuptherapy.com Any other contact between you and your therapist between sessions is discouraged. If you feel you are in a vulnerable situation and need help fast, please call the emergency services or contact www.samaritans.org or telephone them on 116 123 (UK).

Do you offer low cost therapy?

What is Meditation?

Meditation helps you slow down, relax, and develop self-awareness. It allows you to move beyond thoughts and emotions, accessing a deeper sense of clarity and inner peace. This is sometimes referred to as tuning into the meditation bandwidth – the place where you access that sweet spot of your being and meditation just flows. Meditation allows us to get to the space behind our thoughts and emotions and access a deeper awareness within us. It’s about connecting to our core essence. When we don’t feel connected to this, we often feel like there’s something missing in life for us.

What benefits are there from meditation?

Meditation allows us to relax, be more aware of ourselves, connect to source/life force/universal energy in a more intimate way. It can allow us to slow down and see things from a different perspective. It can increase creativity and energy flow, and allow us to connect at a deeper level with ourselves and others.

How do I know if meditation is right for me?

Meditation works differently for everyone. At Listen Up Therapy, we offer various meditation techniques to help you create space from thoughts, build emotional resilience, and deepen your awareness. Our courses are designed to be simple, effective, and adaptable.

Do I need therapy and meditation?

Therapy and meditation are separate practices, but they can be highly complementary. Meditation is not a replacement for therapy, and therapy will not teach meditation. You can choose one or both based on your personal needs.

Are there risks?

Meditation allows for deep self-exploration, and at times, unresolved emotions may surface. While this is normal and part of the healing process, some individuals may benefit from the additional support of a therapist.

How long is the meditation course?

Our 6-week meditation course includes 7 sessions, with the first two sessions available together. You can complete the course at your own pace and revisit it at any time.

Can I get one to one meditation teaching?

Yes. If you prefer a bespoke meditation practice, we offer one-to-one sessions tailored to your needs, allowing you to ask questions and work through any challenges.

What if meditation isn’t for me?

That’s completely fine. You can choose to have counselling only, as both therapy and meditation are standalone services. Our therapists do not teach meditation, and our meditation courses are not a substitute for therapy.
