Listen In Meditation Course

Designed to help you overcome overthinking and increase creativity & awareness

Why learn meditation?

We are More Than Our Thoughts…

We are born as human beings into this life. It’s a ‘technical name’ that is widely used “human being”.

However most people in society are not familiar with the ‘being’ aspect. As we are born and grow we are conditioned to become so familiar with the human aspect (the mind, body, emotions etc) that we believe we are that and that alone. We become so associated with our thoughts we think we are our thoughts (not helped by Descarates “I think, therefore I am” statement - #facepalm).

So how can we begin to unstick ourselves from thinking we are our thoughts (or those judgemental comments which can be so nasty in our head).

We are not the voices/thoughts inside our head. That part that is always judging, comparing, complaining, worrying, thinking.

Getting to a place of non-judgemental awareness

In meditation we can give ourselves the tools to get beyond that place - the place of non-judgemental awareness.

By doing so, some transformations begin to happen to us.

The more we begin to experience and identify with this place of non-judgemental awareness the more the false stories that we’ve associated with begin to drop away.

Of course this is not an overnight process, of course there are ‘aha’ moments, especially when you are doing meditation in conjunction with therapy, but this is the work of a lifetime.

Meditation is not about ‘fixing’ ourselves

Rather than pushing away parts of ourselves or trying to fix ourselves, over time our attention begins to associate more with our true eternal individuality and less of the personality which is largely a construct of our social conditioning.

Listen In is designed to give you the tools to want to spend more time with yourself, to give you an internal map, how to harness your energy and attention, to then arrive at the space of non-judgemental awareness and return there over and over again so you can listen to the true you, the place of non-judgemental awareness rather than the crowd of voices in your mind.

The course is divided into an introduction and 6 insightful sessions to take you step by step.

Getting beyond the layers of thoughts and emotions and listening to what is beyond that is life changing to say the least.

I believe your body is an ear to the Universe, by learning to create an environment within us that cultivates quiet we are more able to listen to truest self and feel connected to all that is.

The 6 Sessions of Listen In

Session 1 - Learning to tune in and understand the power of accessing space

We begin with what meditation is, ways to sit in meditation and creating a meditation space in your home. You’ll be shown an overall ‘map’ for the journey into your inner space and learn simple but profound tools to understand how the mind works and how we can

Session 2 - Harnessing the power of your attention and energy centre

Here we look at how you can harness more of your inner energy and avoid energy leaks; and hone the power of your awareness. Both of these tools will help increase your “Window of Tolerance” and the space from which you react vs respond to life.

Session 3 - The middle path of relaxed awareness

Finding the sweet spot between tension and relaxation, where you’re relaxed but aware. Using techniques to awaken the spiritual spine and balance the hemispheres of the brain to open you into this middle path of flow state. We also look at the power of elevated emotion in meditation.

Session 4 - Non-Judgemental Awareness. Your new best friend

When you start to place your attention on yourself, your love and your energy, a void starts to be filled. Instead of abandoning yourself, you become your own best friend.

Session 5 - Doorways to Awareness

Awareness is way more accessible that you might realise. In this session we explore simple yet profound technique that is like a door way to your awareness and something once you learn, you’ll never forget.

Session 6 - Entering Deeper Into Truth

The final techniques are shared. The more you spend time here, with your true self, the more you will strengthen your Consciousness of your non-judgemental awareness, the more that will be active in your life.

We also touch on how to listen your inner wisdom. We hear with our ears, we listen with something deeper.

What are the benefits of meditation?

Getting Beyond Thoughts

Meditation is not about ‘stopping’ thoughts, but rather using techniques to take us to the place beyond them. The techniques taught within the meditation course are excellent resources for “over thinkers”.

The mind has many functions, and when you learn how you can shift from a state of thinking to a state of being, you’re more able to relax, slow down and enjoy being present.

Aiding Creativity

Meditation is about getting in a flow state, where we feel relaxed, balanced, and in touch with elevated emotions such as unconditional love and gratitude.

It’s not unusual during meditation to have insights and revelations about how to resolve situations as we are tuning out of the busy thinking mind and over active beta brainwaves and into relaxed creative alpha theta brainwaves.

Increasing Awareness

Many people experience that as awareness to their inner landscape increases in meditation, that they start to also be more aware of things in their day to day life. This can be really useful for our work, how we relate and communicate to others and impact our decision making abilities. Increasing awareness and being able to ‘slow down’ an overthinking mind can can us make decisions that feel more aligned with our inner most self.

Benefits of partnering meditation and therapy

Self-Awareness

Self Awareness allows us to respond rather than react to life. When we are present, we can find a gap to choose how to respond to situations rather than reacting, saying or doing things that we don’t mean. Rather than letting a situation take over you self awareness can help you take the drivers seat.

Window of Tolerance

The "window of tolerance" is a term used to describe the state that we are able to function most effectively. It's the state that allows us to 'respond' to situations in life, rather than reacting. In this state we are better able to receive, process and integrate information at our optimum capacity and deal with all the demands of life without difficulty.⠀What helps us stay in this zone?⠀Mindfulness and Meditation, Breathing, Therapy, Journalling⠀

Being With What Is

The capacity to ‘be with what is’ is so important in therapy and life. To be able to accept without judgement our feelings. Being with what is, is also about being with the ‘wholeness’ of life, rather than letting our mind just focus on one thing and going over and over it again. When we are able to be with what is, the more likely we can digest situations in life and see things from a different perspective.

FAQs

What is Meditation?

Meditation techniques prepare us to slow down, relax and become more aware all at the same time. This is sometimes referred to as tuning into the meditation bandwidth – the place where you access that sweet spot of your being and meditation just flows.

Meditation allows us to get to the space behind our thoughts and emotions and access a deeper awareness within us. It’s about connecting to our core essence. When we don’t feel connected to this, we often feel like there’s something missing in life for us.

Is this course for beginners for advanced meditators?

This a foundational course covering everything from posture and setting up a space so perfect for beginners, but also goes into why and how certain techniques work so you have a deeper understanding of what meditation is. Many intermediate meditators and yoga teachers have done the course and found it very beneficial. If you have any specific questions you can get in touch via our enquires form.

How much time will I need to get the most out of it?

If you do 1 session a week you need around 15minutes to watch the video and take in what is shared. The meditation practices start at 10minutes and go up to 20minutes, so you’ll need 10-20 minutes a day for your meditation practice.

What kind of meditation do you teach?

The course is not based around 1 lineage or 1 type of meditation but rather a fusion of techniques that are effective for the reduction of thoughts, aiding relaxation, balancing the hemispheres of the brain, activating your heart centre. The combination of techniques is really effective at helping to prime you for meditation where you learn overtime to let go of the technique and just be. All the techniques are also very use for many situations in day to day life to help reduce thought loops and overthinking, to release tension and to find your creative flow.

What benefits are there from meditation?

Meditation allows us to relax, come out of thought loops, be more creative, feel less stressed. Studies have shown that people who meditate regularly are able to come back to their still point through the day far more easily than the people who do not meditate. Meditation also allows us to slow down and help create space for better decision making and feeling more aligned with the choices we make in life.

How do I know if meditation is right for me?

Like many things in life often we don’t know about something until we really try it. There are many different styles of meditation. What we share are tools on how to create space from thoughts, how to increase your window of tolerance through mindfulness, and how to go deeper than that to connect to your core awareness. What we share is not one ‘style’ of meditation, but carefully selected techniques that we think go well together in creating a simple yet effective meditation. You can read through the course outlines for more information to see if the course resonates.

How does meditation relate to therapy and do I need to do both?

We offer both meditation and psychotherapeutic counselling at Listen Up Therapy Ltd. There is no obligation to use both of these practices. Your meditation classes and courses are not a replacement for therapy. Therapy sessions are not going to teach you meditation. Our experience has shown us that both of these practices can be extremely complementary to each other, however it is your choice whether you decide to use both practices.

Are there risks?

Meditation is about creating a relationship with ourselves on a deeper level. Often in the deeper relaxed states our bodymind may release repressed memories or emotions which is part of the bodymind ‘digesting’ things we didn’t have time to process. This is normal and healthy, but it can be the case that something surfaces that you may want the support of a therapist to help you move through it.

How long is the meditation course?

The meditation course is 6 weeks long. There are 7 sessions, but one is introductory so you can do the first 2 sessions together, and then progress with one session per week. You can access the course for longer, so you can go at a slower pace if necessary and also revisit it anytime.

Can I get one to one meditation teaching?

Yes. If you’d prefer to work with someone, one to one, about finding a bespoke meditation practice or to have the chance to be able to ask questions and work through blocks and difficulties you have, we do offer this.
